Gear post: Shoes update 1

Hi everyone! I know you’re waiting to hear more about the cities we’ve been visiting, but we hit a couple spots with bad internet and right now we’re being kept busy with visiting old friends here in Switzerland. We’re working on the more substantial stuff, I promise! To tide you over, here’s a quick update on our shoes. I know you’re all super excited about that, and I don’t want to disappoint!

First up, Marisa’s Keen Havens. They’re holding up pretty well so far. The tread hasn’t been quite as grippy as she would like. The sole is pretty hard and doesn’t seem to do super well on wet or slippery surfaces. She has also developed a weird toe thing, where one is rubbing up against another and causing some trouble. We don’t know if that’s the shoes or her feet. Overall, they’ve been great for the first month of travel.

My New Balance Minimus shoes have been kind of a mixed bag. They are still very comfortable for walking around cities but some issues have come up. The material on the toe of my right foot started coming off almost immediately, as did a part of the tread on my left shoe (you can see the super glue on the side, towards the front). They’ve stayed together since I glued them a few days ago. Hopefully the whole thing doesn’t unravel. I’ve also been having some ankle and foot soreness after long days of walking. I’m a little concerned about it and might consider replacing them if it gets worse. I’d really rather not, since we’re on a budget, but it would probably be cheaper than ruining my feet for the rest of my life. Also, they suck for hiking on sharp rocks, which I discovered yesterday. Otherwise, they’re awesome!

    • I don’t think they’d go for it, but maybe. I don’t know if I’m going to have many nice things to say about their product =P
